Current generation Apple computers such as the Power Macintosh G4 and the G4 Cube come with a new video connector called ADC (Apple Display Connector).
While ADC is very practical because it supplies the monitor with power as well as video and USB signals all in one cable there is a downside, too:
Older Apple monitors, like the original Cinema Display or the 15" graphite Apple Studio Display, are equipped with industry-standard DVI-Connectors. The same is true for many flat-panel displays in the PC market.
With DVI Extractor II all monitors with a 24-pin DVI-D or a 29-pin DVI-I connector can easily be used with the latest generation of Apple CPUs that sport the new ADC connector.
DVI Extractor II has been improved in two ways over the original DVI Extractor: It sports a DVI-I connector that will work with such digital displays that sport a DVI-I video cable. In addition certain displays that have not worked on the Mac so far now can be used with DVI Extractor II, models from Eizo and Samsung among them.
Compatibility:
DVI Extractor II is compatible with all Power Macintosh G4 and the G4 Cubes that come with an ADC graphics card. If in doubt, the Apple Tech Info Library (TIL) will help you differentiate between the various models.
DVI Extractor II makes ADC-compatible displays out of virtually all third-party flat panel displays with a 24-pin DVI-D or a DVI-I connector.
DVI Extractor II was specially built for the following flat panel displays:
* Eizo Nanao L351/675/685
* IBM T860
* IIiyama AS4637UT, AU4831D
* Philips MP150/180
* Samsung L1810, 152T
Some DVI displays cannot be used with DVI Extractor. These displays typically have a faulty EDID and usually will not work properly in a Windows environment either. Currently the only display of this kind we know of is the ADI L712.
A reverse adapter called DVIator, is available for connecting ADC monitors to DVI graphics cards.
This Adapter has been discontinued, and we are now shipping the Formac ADC to DVI-D adapter. It works great, but for users trying to add a DVI to VGA adapter to it, it will not work correctly. Mac Pro sells this adapter only for ADC to DVI adapter use.
