Bridge is a partnership card game that, like Spades, is descended from the old English game of Whist. There are four players, often referred to as North, South, East, and West. Players bid in an auction, and the highest bid determines how many tricks the winning team will try to take, as well as which suit is trump. This is the contract for the hand. If a team makes their contract, they are rewarded points, and if they do not, their opponents are given a bonus.
