Design Goal: To build a small guitar amplifier module that plugs into the top of any Apple iPod music player, that lets a guitar or bass player practice along with songs on the iPod, through the iPod's own earbuds.
Use Your Two Favorite Toys... Together
While working on our growing music product line this past year, we realized that it would be handy to be able to somehow play a guitar along with the songs stored on an Apple iPod or iPod mini (Not for the iPod Nano, 5G Video or Shuffle.) The JamPod is our little answer to that big need. The JamAmp just plugs into the top of any dock connector iPod, and lets you plug in your guitar, mix the level with the music from the iPod, and practice away as much as you like, through the iPod's own earbuds, or any other headphones.
Small, Handy, And Fun
Jam Amp is a 1.6" x 1.6" x .5" gloss white module that plugs into the headphone jack and the remote port on top of any dock connector model iPod or iPod mini (Not for the iPod Video 5G or Shuffle.) The JamAmp is powered by the iPod, so requires no batteries. Inside the JamAmp is the same high quality miniature guitar amplifier circuitry used in our company's JamPlug product. There is a mixer circuit that is controlled by the top-mounted volume wheel to adjust the output level into the earbuds or headphones. A 48-inch white guitar cord is included for connecting a guitar or bass to the JamAmp.
Using The JamAmp
JamAmp works with any electric guitar, electric bass, or other instrument that sends a guitar-level output signal through a 1/4-inch instrument jack. Just plug the included cable into the 1/4-inch jack on your guitar, bass, acoustic-electric guitar, or other instrument that produces a standard instrument level output signal to a 1/4-inch jack. Turn on your iPod and select a song. Set the iPod's output level and the instrument level, and, magically, you will have both your iPod and your instrument playing through your earbuds or headphones. You can't imagine the sense of 'being inside the song' like using the JamAmp.
The Bottom Line
The JamAmp is one of the most fun gadgets you will ever own for use with your guitar and iPod. It lets you play your instrument along with any song on your iPod. And, it works as a terrific little mini-amplifier for your electric guitar or bass, even with the iPod not playing.
